In days of instant communication and 24/7 social media updates, there’s something extra special about receiving letters and cards via snail mail. The holiday card is a tradition over 150 years strong, and sending one out is a great excuse to get your family together for a special photo each year.

Who knew Game of Thrones could be made family-friendly? Kelly Clarkson’s husband, Brandon Blackstock, has Scottish heritage, so the family got to dress up and celebrate their background and their love for the popular HBO drama.

Creating this photo for their 2007 holiday card took Tracy Sigler and Mary Earle-Sigler, “two days, three separate shooting sessions, and more wardrobe changes than a Cher concert.”

Australian politician Andrew Leigh’s Christmas card drew international attention (and laughs). He explained that, “Our three year old enjoyed [the photo shoot] initially, but found it rather frustrating that we were standing still and looking at the cameraman. From his perspective, you can understand it: why stand still when you can play?”
